Hello 1001 Stories Network family

I am so glad to be able to establish contact with all of you. Thank you for signing up for our newsletter!  This will be all me and no AI as I'm hearing that AI newsletters are becoming popular. You are welcome any time to write me with remarks, suggestions, ideas, whatever,

I had to be able to build the website to get to this point so that took awhile to do- I hope you like it!  This newsletter covers just a couple of our shows. More coming weekly.

1001 Heroes, Legends, Histories & Mysteries

First, 1001 Heroes, Legends, Histories & Mysteries did very well with the 'Summer of Last Stands' so thanks for your support.  We need to grow so please tell a friend, share with others, and if you have a senior citizen in your family let them know about our shows. Audio podcasts are proven to be great brain food for all ages but especially for seniors when you can get them off the TV. TV doesn't require much thinking or imagination whereas audio DOES get your mind involved.  Many great stories of all types to come.

Some of my favorite stories from the past- and this is tough because they're all special to me.

Go to our website www.bestof1001stories.com search  (see magnifying glass?)

The Lost Colony (pts 1,2)  (The Dare Stones, and Found"   I really believe our "found" answer is correct)   By the way, at the beginning of 'The Dare Stones" I couldn't find the right sound for the survivor who was chipping "a help message into the stone- finally a glass ashtray worked perfectly with a small hammer)

The Search For Bridey Murphy (1,2)

Casablanca _the Movie Backstory

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

1001 Classic Short Stories & Tales

Next  1001 Classic Short Stories & Tales-- Thanks for 8 years of support here folks and wow what a listening audience!  You are also the most generous with reviews so thank you.  Sometimes Apple gets very "absent" with reviews. Our website works fast every time.  I guess it's obvious by now that I'm committed to bringing great literature to the public by way of audio novels and short stories- and for a lot of reasons-  I believe listening to (or reading) classic literature (meaning the great authors and stories from 1860- 1929) greatly expands our speaking and writing skills, introduces people to a different time and culture, and stimulates the imagination. I have now narrated over 550 stories, all hand-picked, meaning there were probably 3-5 stories I turned down before choosing the one we have.

I (and you) have discovered so many great stories and authors it goes beyond counting but here are a few that really surprised me

H.C.Bunnner  Try 'A Sisterly Scheme'

PG Wodehouse: The "Jeeves" stories-hilarious!

Robert B McCutcheon  'The Day of the Dog'

Frank Stockton: Love Before Breakfast

Zane Grey 'The Red-Headed Outfield' stories

many, many others

1001 Sherlock Holmes Stories & Tales

This collection of ACD stories and memoirs, plus my 56 Sherlock Adventure narrations, plus a great mix of hard-to-find radio adaptations has been phenomenal all thanks to you listeners.  I'm getting to appreciate all the different Sherlock actors. The South African Springbok radio network collection is fantastic- but they are all good.  Arthur Conan Doyle is my favorite author and he is easy to narrate. The Sherlock adventures are classic for a reason- they have withstood the test of time and will remain popular long after our lifetimes.  I like them all so can't list favorites- but the Hound of the Baskervilles was brilliant.  There is something visceral about a hound's baying. It took me a while to find that sound effect as I remember.

1001 Stories From The Gilded Age

Gizelle Ericksen is delivering an excellent narration of "Anne of the Island', which was Lucy Montgomery's 3rd "Anne of Green Gables sequel- it's a great story!  She is also bringing classic gilded age short stories every Friday at noon so follow 1001 Stories From The Gilded Age.

1001 Ghost, Chiller & Lovecraft

COMING FRIDAY AUG 29TH AT 9PM

Our  FRIDAY NITE FRIGHT AT 1001 SERIES

Join us as we  bring Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic terror story- THE HOUSE OF THE SEVEN GABLES (CHAP 1)  THE PYNCHEON FAMILY

Gizelle Erickson brings a spine tingling narration and excellent production- the best version I ever heard of this story. Your Friday nights will never be the same!

All about the host - Jon Hagadorn

Just a little about me-- I live in Virginia Beach VA, I'm past age 39, have two terrific kids and 4 grandkids. I still think (and some people say look) young. My work ethic is what my wife describes as "over the top". I love what I do, as I think you know. I still often wake up with ideas and have to turn on the office lights to put them on paper. I've had some challenges for years with neuropathy, the kind you apparently get when you have a nerve being impinged upon, and it's gotten worse lately. If any of you have advice as to how to beat it let me know.  I attended Virginia Wesleyan back in the day and English and History were and are my favorite subjects- no surprise to any of you. We home schooled our kids (mostly) and both went to college, and both have careers which have lasted well. I'm a huge fan of the old west, having grown up with my fathers stories from the Four Corners area (Col-NM).

I was there at the grand opening of Disneyland, in July of '55, my dad having been Walt Disney's GE lighting rep for its construction. I have been on TV in 'The FBI Files" and a few other similar documentary style types. Man, I was overweight then. No longer.  I worked as a wholesale fishing tackle rep on the east coast for ten years (first territory was The Outer Banks),, had my own ad sales, marketing businesses, and worked in cable TV advertising for years.  Favorite getaway- North Carolina's Outer banks- God's country for Beach people.

I love horses and riding, probably resulting from a childhood spent watching westerns every Saturday morning.

Today for the podcasts. I'm looking for a good male voice (age 30+, no accent who can record, edit, provide a great narration, and send me a finished MP3. I'd like to get 1001 Stories From The Old West back to narration. Radio shows are great, but I want to mix it up with stories. It doesn't pay much but you'll have the satisfaction of contributing to the learning of American history.

The network you and I built here does very well these days. I stay busy getting all these episodes  finished and sent up each week. For twelve shows, many with multiple episodes each.

Thanks to each and every one of you for listening and enjoying. Don't hesitate to let me know a little about yourselves.

Stay Safe, and I'll write again soon.

Jon
