In this first installment, Charlie Siringo launches one of the most sweeping manhunts of his detective career — a pursuit that will eventually stretch across Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, the Indian Territory, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Montana, and even into Mexico. Charlie remembering back as a young cowboy, goes up against Bat Masterson in a bar fight in Dodge City 1877 between cowboys and buffalo hunters

Part 1 introduces the case, the suspects, and the rugged, unforgiving terrain that shaped every mile of the chase.

EPISODE SUMMARY

After finishing several smaller assignments, Siringo is paired with fellow operative W.O. Sayles and tasked with tracking down the men responsible for the Wilcox, Wyoming train robbery — a violent holdup in which Sheriff Hazen was killed. Early clues point toward the notorious Hole‑in‑the‑Wall gang, and the chase begins in earnest.

Siringo and Sayles outfit themselves in Denver, then ride into Utah and Colorado, following faint horse tracks, telegraph messages, and the whispers of ranchers and railroad men. Along the way, they encounter:

• False arrests — including a moment in Price, Utah when a sheriff’s posse surrounds their hotel, convinced they are the train robbers. “We were virtually under arrest as Union Pacific train robbers…”

• Outlaw sightings — including a lone rider with five horses who matches the description of the deadly Kid Curry. “…from the description given us he was evidently the notorious ‘Kid’ Curry.”

• Treacherous terrain — swollen creeks, steep bluffs, rattlesnakes, and long stretches of empty canyon country where a single wrong turn could end the chase.

• Old acquaintances resurfacing — such as Tom Hall (now Tom Nichols), a former Wyoming ally whose presence adds tension and uncertainty.

Part 1 ends with Siringo and Sayles pushing deeper into outlaw territory, closing in on the trail of two men driving thirteen stolen horses — the same number seen fleeing Wyoming after the robbery.
