ANNE OF GREEN GABLES

by L. M. Montgomery

Chapter 7: Anne Says Her Prayers

Marilla discovers that Anne has never really been taught to pray, something Marilla considers a serious omission in the child's upbringing. But teaching Anne anything is rarely straightforward. When Anne is asked to say her prayers, her imagination and natural honesty take over, resulting in a prayer that is unmistakably Anne Shirley.

It's a charming chapter that shows both Anne's innocence and the gradual beginning of her new life at Green Gables, where Marilla is starting to realize just how much responsibility she has taken on.

Chapter 8: Anne's Bringing-Up Is Begun

Now that Anne is staying at Green Gables, Marilla takes seriously the business of raising her properly. Anne, however, is bursting with questions, observations, hopes, and an imagination that refuses to be contained.

We also begin to see something important developing between the two. Marilla may believe she is simply doing her duty, but Anne is beginning to find the security and belonging she has long wanted. And whether Marilla realizes it yet or not, life at Green Gables will never be quite the same.
